Wooden Skids: Price, Sizes and Types (Including Floor Skids)

A wooden skid is the simpler, lighter relative of the euro pallet. It’s used for one-way shipments, for lighter loads, as floor decking in a warehouse, basement or garage, and anywhere a certified exchange pallet isn’t needed. At G-PAL we sell used euro-size skids 120×80 and make skids and non-standard sizes to order. For today’s price, call +359 877 166 555.

What a wooden skid is and how it differs from a euro pallet

An EPAL or UIC euro pallet has a strictly defined construction, marking and rules for manufacture and repair. A skid is a freer construction: boards nailed onto cross members or blocks, without any mandatory system marking. The result is:

  • lower weight – easier to move by hand;
  • a lower price – less timber is used;
  • freedom of size – it can be made to fit your goods or your space exactly;
  • lower load capacity than a euro pallet – suitable for light and medium loads.

If you need a pallet for exchange with a freight forwarder or retail chain, choose a euro pallet – see new euro pallets or used pallets. If you just need a timber base under your goods, a skid is the more sensible choice.

Types of skids we offer

Used euro-size skid 1200×800 – light

The euro-size skid 120×80 has the same outer dimensions as a euro pallet, so it fits racking, pallet trucks and lorries designed for 1200×800. The light grade means less worn timber and a better appearance. It’s the most popular skid at our yard.

Skids made to order

When the standard size won’t do, we make skids in non-standard sizes to order. Tell us the length, width, approximate weight of the load and what the skids will be used for – we’ll suggest a design and give you a price. This is ideal for machinery and parts with unusual dimensions, for panels and profiles, and for packing furniture.

Floor skids

We’re often asked for wooden floor skids – decking that keeps goods, tools or firewood off cold or damp concrete. Typical locations are warehouses, basements, garages, barns, greenhouses and sheds. You can lay standard 120×80 skids side by side or order a size that covers the area exactly. If the space is damp, consider timber with impregnation – we have our own dip-treatment tank.

Pallet collars

You can add a pallet collar (frame) 1200×800 to a pallet or skid. This turns the base into a box for bulk goods – potatoes, apples, firewood, small parts. Collars are stacked on top of each other to the height you need.

Skid sizes

The most common size is 1200×800 mm – the same as a euro pallet. It fits most warehouse racking and the load space of trucks. For non-standard sizes we work to your specification. To compare with a euro pallet, see euro pallet dimensions, weight and load capacity.

What the price of wooden skids depends on

We don’t list prices on the website because they change. The price of a skid depends on:

  • the type – a used euro-size skid or a new one made to order;
  • the grade of a used skid;
  • size and construction for custom orders – how many boards, what thickness, what load it has to carry;
  • impregnation, if required;
  • quantity;
  • delivery – distance and number of units.

Call us and we’ll give you today’s price – for standard skids usually during the call, and for custom skids once we’ve agreed the dimensions. Our general approach to pricing is explained on Euro pallet price today.

What skids are used for

  • one-way shipments where the pallet isn’t returned;
  • a base for goods in a warehouse, shop or shed;
  • a base for machinery and equipment in transport;
  • storing firewood, sacks and building materials;
  • a crate for fruit and vegetables when combined with pallet collars;
  • floor decking in basements, garages and farm buildings.

Timber for building your own

If you’d rather build a skid or decking yourself, we sell timber – beams, boards, planks and tongue-and-groove cladding. We can impregnate it before you collect it. See Timber in Plovdiv.

Delivery and buy-back

We deliver with our own trucks anywhere in Bulgaria. Within Plovdiv and Plovdiv Province, delivery is same-day. The delivery cost depends on distance and quantity, with no fixed minimum – details on Pallet delivery.

Have old skids? We buy back all types of pallets and skids – we come, inspect, pay on the spot and load, with no sorting required. If you’re buying and selling at the same time, the truck does both in a single trip and the value of the old ones is deducted.

You can also collect skids yourself from our yard at 270 Vasil Levski Blvd, Plovdiv. Our full range is in the Products section.

How to choose the right skid

Before you order, think about three things. First, how heavy the load is and how it’s distributed. A bag of cement lying across the whole surface stresses a skid quite differently from a machine standing on four feet. Second, how the skid will be moved: with a forklift, a pallet truck or not at all. If a pallet truck will be used, the gaps between the blocks must let the forks in. Third, where it will be kept: dry and under cover, outdoors or in a damp room. That decides whether impregnation makes sense.

If you tell us these three things on the phone, we’ll suggest the right option – a standard euro-size skid, a sturdier custom skid or simply a euro pallet. Sometimes the best-value solution is a used dark euro pallet, which costs little but carries more than an ordinary skid. Our aim is for you to buy what you need, not the most expensive option.

Skids wholesale

Companies that send large numbers of one-way shipments often buy skids wholesale – dozens or hundreds at a time. With such quantities the price per unit is better and deliveries can be regular. See Wholesale pallets for businesses if you have an ongoing need.

Enquiry for skids

Tell us the type, size, quantity and delivery location. For custom skids, also tell us what load they’ll carry.
